The Battle of Mirbat Dinner

Date Posted: 07 March 2018

The Battle of Mirbat took place on 19th. July 1972 during the Dhofar Rebellion in Southern Oman. It was, in 1972, a secret war fought against Russian and Chinese backed rebels.

It was one of the most heroic actions ever fought by the SAS, and has been described as a ‘Modern Day’s Rorke’s Drift’.

We are very fortunate to have again, as our Presenter of this extraordinary story, Pete ‘Snapper’ Winner, who gave us the fascinating presentation about the Iranian Embassy Siege in September last year. Pete served for 18 years with 22 SAS Regiment and is the author of the book ‘Soldier I’, an autobiography of his life in the SAS. Pete was one of the survivors of this epic battle.

The event will be held at the Cardiff and County Club on Wednesday 7th March, starting promptly at 6.00pm upstairs in the billiard room. After the Presentation, a three course dinner will take place downstairs.

The cost of the evening will be £40 to include the dinner. Out of this amount, £10 will be donated to the ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity.

Numbers are limited to 100 people, so please book your place NOW, and pay in advance in order to secure your place, making cheques payable to the ‘Cardiff and County Club’. This function is open to all Members and Guests of Members.

The menu will be as follows,

Cream of Leek Soup

Roasted Loin of Pork, with Smoked Bacon & Wholegrain Mustard Veloute, accompanied by a selection of Seasonal Vegetables

Spiced Apple Crumble with Custard

Coffee with Mints

Wines as ordered by individuals
