Literary Circle Luncheon

Tuesday 24 October 2017 in the Westgate Room

‘The Roots of Rock from Cardiff to Mississippi and Back’

A talk by Peter Finch

Members will be aware that variety is a key aspect of the subject matter for our periodic talks and Peter Finch’s new book, title as above, well illustrates the point. To quote the author, who counts rock music among his enthusiasms, there is ‘a lot of Cardiff’ in his talk which will concentrate on the rock and roll of the late 1950’s and early 60’s. Short extracts from period vinyl recordings will illustrate the talk.

A native of Cardiff, Peter is a well- known author and broadcaster, frequently speaking on radio and appearing on TV as an expert in the field of local history. Until recently Chief Executive of Literature Wales he is a full time poet, critic, author, and literary entrepreneur. Among his varied distinctions he is a Fellow of both the English Association and the Welsh Academy (Yr Academi Cymraeg).  Members who were present on the occasion of his previous visit to the Club some years ago, when he spoke following the publication of his book Real Cardiff, will recall that he is an excellent and entertaining speaker.

The lunch is open to all Club members and their guests.

Members are asked to indicate their intention to attend by calling the office on 029 2022 0846.

Sparkling wine will be served at 12.30 to be followed by a two course lunch at 1.00 pm. There will be a fixed menu, fish being an optional alternative if requested in advance. Those attending will be invoiced subsequently for food and drink.
